I understand cavemen needing to be covered in hair so they can keep warm. But humans have evolved, and we don't need body hair to keep us warm. I am mainly talking about body hair. Unfortunately, my stomach, chest and shoulders are covered with thick, black hair. I hate it and I find it ridiculous and unecessary. And I see no evolutional need for all of the hair. So why do I grow this hair?

Look at robin williams, he looks like someone stapled tribbles all over his body. I'm surprise he doesn't have problems with hairballs. Damned good thing he's famous or he'd probably get harrased at airports all the time for stashing stuff in his furr. I'm sure even if he doesn't notice it at the time he probably loses stuff in there all the time.

If hairy people were less competitive in getting food and other resources or had less opportunity to reproduce, then hairiness would gradually disappear.
Second, the key word above is "gradually". The time frame during which human beings have built shelters and worn clothing is on the order of tens of thousands of years. But this is only a small fraction of the history of Homo sapiens sapiens inhabiting the Earth. Evolution takes place on a time-scale much larger than recorded human history or even archaeological knowledge of prehistory. Those ancestors of our who invented the wheel, learned to use fire, etc., were not biologically very different from us. Evolution is slow.
(Note, the reason we have less hair than most apes has been theorized to be that we began spending time in water a lot. The so-called "aquatic ape". This is speculation though and there's much we don't know.)
As for your aesthetic concerns, many athletes like swimmers shave or wax their hair. And men who aren't athletes have started removing body hair as well. You might consider it.
But you might also consider that some women find hairiness quite attractive. And remember this: it is easier for you to remove hair than for men who grow very little to get more, so you're lucky in some ways to have that option.

Why are humans still covered in hair? I agree with the "hair where you don't want it" theory. Like Will Ferrell, I hate back hair. But hair is still neccessary for body warmth and head protection.
