Will washing and and vacuuming my clothes get rid of fleas & their eggs? What do I do if they ge

My cat had fleas. I treated her and I'm treating the house. I've tied her up on a tile surface and I'm giving her baths every 6 days with a flea growth regulator shampoo along with giving her a monthly spot treatment and feeding her garlic. I will admitt that I had a habit of laying clothes around and she liked to rest on the clothes in the laudary basket. While lying in bed awake, I've been bitten while wearing nothing but my underware. I put white sheets on the bed so I can see if any fleas are on the bed. Can they bite through clothing? Can they crawl under elastic? And last, but not least, if they get in my hair, what can I use to get them out? I've searched the net, but have found nothing for human hair. I was thinking of using alcohol since they die almost instantly from it. But what if they laid eggs. What do I do then?

Don't worry, fleas can't live on your body--they will not lay eggs on you. If you get fleas in your hair, chances are they will jump out on their own, just bathe normally. They can get in your clothes, sheets, and upholstery. Yes, wash and vacuum. Vacuum repeatedly and often and dispose of the bags outside--the vibrations of the vacuum will cause eggs to hatch. There is powder that you can buy at the pet store to put on the rug before vacuuming that will help get rid of them. Use flea bombs from your local drug store according to the label (yes, they are awful, but they really work). Which spot treatment are you using? If it is advantage or frontline plus great, if it is cheaper, then switch. You can use a flea comb if you like, but the shampoo isn't necessary if you are using a good once a month treatment. No, they can't bite through clothing.

You have to wash your clothes with hot water to get rid of fleas. I don't know about getting them out of your hair but there are special shampoos out there but you'lll have to ask. Ask a vet for advice.

Cat fleas dont suck blood from humans, so dont sweat it (there are other versions that do however......). The best is get the cat a shot that kills the fleas and you are home free.

good luck

fleas are so difficult once you get them in the house. you have to address the entire house and then 3 days later when the eggs hatch do it again before they lay more eggs. vaccuuming will suck them up but not kill them so you have to kill the eggs and fleas first then suck it up and i will keep my vac outside for a week or so. lots of sprays and dips and chemical treatments will work if you get it from a pet go frontline next year it works so well. good luck

Yes, wash and vac. They will not get in your hair. Fleas do not like humans, they will bite you if they do not have an animal. If you have 3rd stage pupal cocoons it may take a while to get rid of them. They only hatch when the temp and humidity is right. Do not loose hope-use that vac anywhere the cat lays. Also be sure to vac in the corners and along the sides of the walls (on the floor). Just keep it up at least every couple days. You could see fleas again in two to four weeks-just do the same thing.

Edit- if one gets in you hair-its not looking for a home-its looking for a cat.

Hi,

Go to the vet to get the once a month treatment (if the one you're using is from a regular store) the vet one is much, much better. Then don't use anything else on the cat. Too much flea repellant can make your cat sick or kill it. If what you're using is from the vet, he needs to know it's not working and give you a different brand. Then get some flea spray or flea bombs and spray or fog your house. You need to do it again four days later. Flea eggs hatch every 4 days. Usually the spray will get the live fleas but not the eggs, so that's why it's important to do it after 4 days. Don't wait 5 or they'll lay more eggs. I've been down this road before, so I know what you're going through. This method will work. Also, if you use the flea bombs, read the instructions carefully. You won't be able to be in the house and neither will your cat and you can't have any pilot lights on.
